Early History of Our School
Our school owes its existence very much to the
building of the railway across the Blue Mountains. The first road
across the Blue Mountains built by Cox actually passed through
Glenbrook Park but when alternate roads were opened, early traffic all
by-passed Glenbrook. There was great activity in 1892 when settlers and
workers, accompanied by their families, descended on Glenbrook to
construct the Glenbrook Tunnel through Lapstone Hill.
The school opened in 1892 when on the 26th April, a teacher was
appointed for 66 pupils. These pupils were mostly the children of
the railway workers. The population of the school varied over the
years and new deviations were built and railway children once more made
up the larger proportion of our students.
In 1961 a school site was established, becoming the Primary Department,
located in Woodville Street. In 2005 the site officially opened with
great celebration after significant refurbishment was
undertaken of the original school.
